Sasol Technology (Pty) Ltd of South Africa has appointed Hatch as one of its two preferred engineering firms for the Sasol®, Fixed Bed Dry Bottom™ (Sasol® FBDB™) Gasification technology for an initial term of 10 years.
Hatch is providing engineering services including materials-handling design, machine design and pressure-vessel design to assist Sasol with its ambitious plans to improve and proliferate the Sasol® FBDB™ Gasification technology in support of growing and improving its syngas generation and coal-to-liquids business over the next decade.
Hatch’s mandate covers the upstream aspects of the Sasol® FBDB™ Gasification technology, including coal delivery, gasification proprietary equipment and ash handling.
Hatch is assisting Sasol in three types of projects:
- Continuous improvement and optimization of the existing coal-based gas production operations
- Design of proprietary equipment and specialized systems for coal-gasification units for new gasification plants currently under consideration by Sasol
- Further development of its gasification technology
Hatch has very quickly established an integrated working team with Sasol Technology, and already completed a number of studies to optimize proprietary Sasol® FBDB™ equipment.
Worksharing between Hatch’s Mississauga and Johannesburg offices has enabled the delivery of innovative engineering solutions, tailored to suit the needs of both Sasol Technology experts and plant operators, in a cost and time effective manner.
