South Africa:  Kumba Iron Ore Mine

Hatch delivers EPCM services to Kumba Iron Ore’s Kolomela project

Kumba Iron Ore’s Kolomela Mine (formerly named Sishen South) is within budget to produce 9 million tonnes per annum of high-grade iron ore by 2013. The ore will be processed in a crushing and sizing plant and transferred to stockpiles and a rail-truck loading station.

Hatch supplied all engineering, procurement and construction management services for the plant and stockyard area, which extends from the primary crusher feed-point, the primary, secondary and tertiary crushing of material with scalping, and product screening through to stacking and reclaiming in the stockyard, the load-out station and the rail chase. Hatch’s portion of the project will commence commissioning in June 2011.

Kumba is managing the overall Kolomela Mine project with first ore scheduled to be delivered to port in 2012.
